Lukanov BG циркThe book Music at Bulgarian Circuses: Historical and Theoretical Aspects by Mihail Lukanov, Department of Music, Institute of Art Studies deals with the music in the arenas of Bulgarian circuses and its specifics and functions in the period between the late nineteenth century until the late 1980s, in a time when circus practices existed in a creative symbiosis with musical performances, a period when circus was a vital media conveying music to the public domain. The work seeks to highlight the big picture of musical performances in Bulgarian arenas, its history, key figures and groups and make a sweeping generalisation about their role in Bulgarian culture. The book is vol. 2 of the De Artibus Monographiae series of monographic works by researchers at the Institute of Art Studies.
