A roundtable on Concurrent processes in the twentieth-century history of arts

A roundtable on Concurrent processes in the twentieth-century history of arts was held on 12 January 2018, mounted as part of a project of the Institute of Art Studies, BAS, Bulgaria’s Twentieth Century in Arts and Culture, funded by the Bulgarian Science Fund and led by Prof. Dr Joanna Sapssova-Dikova. The discussion broached topics mostly relating to the possible meeting points and interplays between different arts. The polemics delved deeper into such questions as the views of the categories of cultural history; the specifics of the processes in the context of modernity; periodisations; sites of memory (les lieux de memoire) as a tool of historical art studies; the assumption of the decline of the grand narratives; the growing importance of cross-cultural occurrences in the contemporary cultural situation; the risks posed by the interpretations of the controversial ideological legacy of the recent communist past; transitional period issues, etc.
