Public Lecture

Assoc. Prof. Margarita Kuyumdzhieva, Department of Fine Arts, will deliver a public lecture on The Three-faced Angel and the Three-faced Christ, on 28 May 2018, Monday, 2:00 pm, in the convention hall of the Institute of Art Studies.
The lecture broaches the advent and development of a rare version of the representation of the Triune Godhead in Orthodox art: the three-faced and three-headed angelic and Christ’s depictions. Their existence poses a series of more global questions as, for examples, about the nature of the religiousness of the Orthodox East and the West, about the contacts and the mechanisms of influence between the two areas over the centuries and about the role of the late medieval icon-painters in the spread of Western models to the art of the Orthodox nations.
The lecture sums up the results of Assoc. Prof. Margarita Kuyumdzhieva’s research on the subject and is intended for colleagues, representatives of cultural and educational institutions, doctoral students and all those who happen to be interested in the subject.
