Art Studies Quarterly is a periodical of the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. It is the only Bulgarian academic journal in the field of visual arts, theater and film studies. Its first issue was published in May 1968 and already 45 years shows the research guidelines on artistic practices in Bulgaria. Policy of the journal is to present different perspectives, to provide a platform for a wide range of both Bulgarian and foreign authors, of young and established scholars, in order to cover adequately all aspects of interdisciplinary research.
The editorial strategy of the Art Studies Quarterly is to offer issues devoted to one thematic circle, which is a prerequisite for addressing the queries on one topic panel with the tools and methodologies from different areas of knowledge. That is why priority is given to texts containing new discoveries and unpublished data. The journal focuses on research that put Bulgarian art in the context of European and Balkan ones, and not only.
