A new monograph explores the principles of ballet choreographic directing
The new monograph, Architectonic Principles of Ballet Choreographic Directing by Prof. Anelia Yaneva, exploring the principles of ballet choreographic directing, Institute of Art Studies, BAS, is the third volume of De Artibus Monographiae series.
A significant contribution of this study is the introduction of terminology of ballet art in Bulgarian literature and defining its distinctive characteristics. Clarifying the terms is important to defining the hierarchical dependences and relationships that would form a whole, i.e. a complete art form.
Prof. Anelia Yaneva, substantiating her assumptions by giving a number of examples and combining theory with empirical evidence, succeeds in achieving the maximum in her study. Synthesis of arts is yet another problem she broaches, explaining the composer-conductor-set designer-costume designer-choreographer-director relationship in building a comprehensive concept of a ballet work.
Prof. Anelia Yaneva. Institute of Art Studies, BAS, holds a PhD in Ballet Studies, defended her thesis in History of Dance in St. Petersburg. She has staged 10 ballets as a choreographer and 70 choreographic miniatures; published 14 books on ballet and co-authored 7 encyclopaedias, received many awards for her choreographic, teaching and research activities. Leads Musical Theatre research group, Institute of Art Studies, BAS.
