Presentation of the anniversary collection dedicated to Prof. Ivanka Gergova, DSc, in Plovdiv
On 24 March 2026, at the Plovdiv City Art Gallery, in the hall of the permanent ‘Icons' exhibition, the book ‘Art History as a Vocation. A Collection in Honour of Corr. Member, Prof. Ivanka Gergova, DSc, on the Occasion of Her 70th Birthday”, published with the support of the Ministry of Culture under the “Book Aid” programme, was presented. The event was opened by the Director of the gallery, Mr Krassimir Linkov, who highlighted the significance of Prof. Gergova's scholarly work as one of Bulgaria's foremost art historians, who devoted her life to the study of Orthodox art from the past, and her significant contribution to the research on Bulgaria's artistic heritage. Prof. Dimo Cheshmedzhiev from the Cyril and Methodius Research Centre at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences presented the publication in detail. In his address, he outlined the main research themes, emphasising their scientific significance and the publication's role as a testament to the high regard for Prof. Gergova's research. For her part, Chief Assist. Prof. Darina Boykina, PhD, from the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, emphasised that the presentation of the volume was the final stage of the initiative related to the celebration of Prof. Gergova's jubilee, and that the voluminous collection brings together articles not only by some of the most prominent researchers in their fields, but also by her associates, with whom she has worked over the years.
The event attracted considerable interest and brought together representatives of the academic community, cultural institutions and a wide range of admirers, who paid well-deserved tribute to the contribution of Prof. Ivanka Gergova, DSc., to the development of the Bulgarian humanities.
