The Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) sign a partnership agreement

The Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IAS-BAS) and the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) signed a partnership agreement at the BTA National Press Club.

‘On this significant day, World Theatre Day, we are formalising our relationship with BTA,’ said the Director of the IAS-BAS, Prof. Spassova-Dikova.
‘The purpose of this agreement is to ensure that the Institute is consistently featured in our broadcasts, using the materials we receive,’ said BTA Director-General Kiril Valchev. He highlighted that the first news item the Agency wrote about the Institute dated back to 11 December 1951. Valchev added that while in 2015, BTA’s broadcasts had featured only two publications about the Institute of Art Studies, last year this number had increased to 45, some of which were also in English.

Prof. Spassova-Dikova noted that the Institute participates in the national ‘Heritage BG’ programme for the digitisation and promotion of archives. ‘We are currently also in the process of digitising these immensely valuable archives, and your cooperation will be of enormous benefit to us,’ she said. Prof. Spassova-Dikova added that the partnership with BTA is also important for promoting Bulgarian cultural heritage beyond the country’s borders.

At the official ceremony at BTA, the Deputy Directors of the Institute, Prof. Andronika Martonova, PhD, and Assoc. Prof. Margarita Kuyumdzhieva, PhD, also shared their views on the partnership. ‘We believe that, through BTA’s coverage, these achievements can reach a very wide global audience,’ Deputy Director Prof. Martonova added.

‘You have been able to cover some of our activities and achievements, and I hope that this will be multiplied by this partnership with BTA,’ Assoc. Prof. Kuyumdzhieva noted.

The Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and BTA could join forces to work on their archives, suggested Assoc. Prof. Deyan Statulov, PhD, Head of the Screen Arts Sector, explaining that the specific impetus for initiating the partnership was the launch of the project ‘Europe–Bulgaria: A Cycle of Film Ideas’, funded by the Scientific Research Fund.

Following the official signing ceremony, Kiril Valchev invited the Institute’s management to view part of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency’s archive.
