Theatre Problems Seminar

The second meeting of the Theatre Problems Seminar will be held on 25.06.2026 at 10:00 in Hall 1 of the Institute of Art Studies.
 
An introductory report titled Birth of the Theatrical Festival Form in Bulgaria and Its Functioning Until 1989: National Reviews, Festival Models and Their Role in the Development of the Theatrical Process will be presented by Tinka Nikolova, who is a regular doctoral student in the Theatre sector.
The festival form in the Bulgarian theatre developed gradually in the second half of the 20th century. During this period, national reviews, festivals, and creative forums established themselves as important parts of theatrical life, contributing to professional exchange, artistic evaluation, and the development of the performing arts.
The processes of the emergence and institutionalisation of theatrical festivals and national reviews in Bulgaria until 1989, as well as their structure, functions, and place in the country’s cultural life, will be presented.
