Actor and Memory: Andrey Chaprazov
Days prior to great Bulgarian actor Andrey Chaprazov’s birthday, 16 February 1920, the book Actor and Memory: Andrey Chaprazov came out to commemorate his hundredth anniversary. The book was partially supported by the Ministry of Culture’s programme Grants to Publishers. Andrey Chaprazov played for almost half a century on the stage of the National Theatre, Sofia, building a number of memorable characters and becoming a favourite actor of Sofia’s audiences. He was a founder, director and manager of the Theatre of Poetry and Variety (1966–1967), Sofia and played in a number of feature films. Actor Andrey Chaprazov’s versatile work is presented in its entirety. Prof. Joanna Spassova-Dikova, Institute of Art Studies, is the compiler, editor and author of the preface. The chapter Characters of a Generation contains interviews with the actor’s son Michail Chaprazov, with actors who played with him onstage and in films, such as Tania Massalitinova, Emil Stefanov, Maria Stefanova, Georgi Cherkelov, Sava Hashumov, Kiril Kavadarkov, Zhorzheta Chakurova, Luna Davidova, Marin Yanev, Nikolay Nikolaev, Bozhidar Dakov, Vasil Vachev, Andrey Daniel, Katia Aladjem, Ludmil Staikov, Peter Tsankov, Kiril Donchev, etc. The chapter In memoriam contains memories courtesy of Prof. Vasil Stefanov, Violeta Bahchevanova, Michail Petrov, Nevena Mandadjieva, Stefan Stoichev, Krasimira Ignatova-Kiselichka, Christian Fokov, etc. Records courtesy of his wife and son are published for the first time as well as archival materials. The book is lavishly illustrated with photos, facsimiles pf letters and records of the actor from his personal archive. The book is intended both for students, teachers, theatregoers and wide readerships.
