Prof. Karakostova is a musicologist. Her areas of research interest cover opera and musical. She works in the field of the history and theory of Bulgarian musical theatre; history and theory of popular stage genres (comic opera, vaudeville, operetta, musical comedy, musical), theatre and film music. She published monographs, studies and critical articles; radio journalism, screenplays of TV films; editor of thematic series of CDs.
