Assoc. Prof. Rositsa Draganova’s monograph Music at Bulgarian Schools at the Turn of the Twentieth Century came out. The book deals with the development and specifics of the practice of music education in Bulgaria in the post-Liberation period. Schools at the time were hubs of melodising and a seedbed of the actively developing Bulgarian musical culture. This is the reason why the study sought not only to depict and rethink the processes of music education, but also to bring up to date the knowledge of the dynamics of this country’s musical culture at the turn of the twentieth century. The book includes selected examples as well as documentary photographs and photo portraits. Biographical details and comments on the role of a total of 32 Bulgarian musicians and enlighteners of the period are provided along with relevant sources on them.
