The second volume of Artists from Debar in the Eparchy of Vidin presents newly discovered Debarian masters working at 33 churches

Корица_Дебърски майстори_т.2The second volume of Artists from Debar in the Eparchy of Vidin is the last one of a grand-scale study on the churches in the Eparchy of Vidin, conducted by researchers from the Institute of Art Studies, BAS. The monograph is an outcome of the collaboration between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts under the Bulgarian-Macedonian Shared art legacy of the eighteenth/nineteenth centuries project.
Explored were churches where icon painters, woodcarvers and builders members of the Art School of Debur worked. The book brings together entries dealing with the architecture and interior decoration, including by artists from other art centres, of 33 churches. Using field research and archival sources, a number of discoveries was made: new artists from Debar, new attributions and adding them to the chronology of their presences in the Bulgarian Southwest of the period between 1857 and 1934.
The book is lavishly illustrated and funded by the Holy Metropolitanate of Vidin.
