Interdisciplinary Conference “The Image in the Text, the Text in the Image” 2023

DSC_0012On 12 and 13 September 2023, three significant Bulgarian cultural institutions celebrated their 75th anniversaries through the interdisciplinary jubilee conference "The Image in the Text, the Text in the Image". Two of them are parts of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences: the Institute of Art Studies and the Institute of Literature, and the third is the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts "Krastyo Sarafov", which also hosted the forum.

During the solemn part, the jubilants received a greeting from Acad. Yulian Revalski – Chairman of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, represented by Assoc. Prof. Elka Traykova, PhD, Scientific Secretary of the Department of Cultural Heritage and National Identity – BAS.

The conference was opened by Prof. Stanislav Semerdzhiev – Rector of NATFA. Assoc. Prof. Penka Vatova – Director of the Institute for Literature and Prof. Joanna Spassova-Dikova – Director of the Institute of Art Studies also greeted the participants.
During the two days, more than 50 researchers from different universities and scientific organizations presented scientific reports related to the topic of the eternal interdisciplinary dialogue between word and image. Issues concerning not only literature, theatre, cinema, fine arts, and music, but also other cultural and historical topics were discussed. A number of interdisciplinary topics were covered. Particular attention was paid to the similarities and differences in the emergence and development of the arts. The presentations focused on both the national importance and the broader meaning of the topics studied in a more general cultural and historical context.

Joining the efforts of scientists and teachers from different cultural institutions is a step towards communication between people in today's globalization, when the local and the global are intertwined.
