INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ART READINGS 2025 ● NEW ART MODULE
ARTS AND ARCHIVES
SOFIA, 10 – 12 April 2025
Archive of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre
The Organizing Committee of the International Scientific Conference Art Readings 2025, New Art Module, invites established and young scholars to send their proposals for reports related to the topic of the upcoming conference "Arts and Archives".
The archives related to the arts – both to the works themselves and their authors and the historical context in which they were created – are of invaluable importance for the scientific research of arts heritage. Writing the histories of the individual arts, reconstructing and tracing the past of the overall artistic culture and current developments in the artistic sphere could not be done without the search, study, and analysis of preserved archival documents, sources, and materials. Therefore, the intention of the organizers of the conference is to focus attention on the role of archives in creating a reliable, deep, and objective history of the arts and, accordingly, on the professional, responsible, and adequate preservation, development and use of existing archival funds and the modern archiving of contemporary arts and reflections on them in new art archives, aided by new technologies.
We expect proposals that address in particular, but not only, the following topics:
– available archives in the field of individual arts – theatre, music, screen arts, contemporary visual arts and issues and problems arising from their use in research;
– presentation of research and other scientific and applied practices and projects related to the development of existing archive funds and the creation of new arteries;
– archives and personalities in the arts;
– archives and works;
– archives, arts, and new technologies; scientific problems related to digitization and digital repositories of artefacts;
– archiving of contemporary art – basic questions, ideas, problems.
The proposed topic is of interdisciplinary nature and applications by researchers from interrelated disciplines such as preservation of artistic heritage, conservation and restoration, museology, as well as specialists in history, archival studies, literature, religion, archaeology, etc. will gladly be considered if they are related to the topic.
When accepting the submitted proposals, the requirement for not less than 10% of the participants to be young researchers, postdoctoral researchers, or doctoral students will be met.
The working languages of the conference are Bulgarian and English.
