Prof. Kamelia Nikolova, DSc, was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit by the President of the Republic of Poland

On November 15, 2024, Prof. Kamelia Nikolova, DSc, from the Theatre Sector at the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit – the highest state award of the Republic of Poland, by President H.E. Mr. Andrzej Duda. The award was presented to her at an official ceremony at the Polish Embassy by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Bulgaria, Mr. Maciej Szymański. Prof. Nikolova received the distinction for her joint work and productive cooperation with scientists and lecturers from the University of Kraków, the University of Łódź, the Polish Theatre Institute in Warsaw and the Polish Institute in Sofia, with whom over the past two decades she has been intensively working on bilateral and international projects for the research and promotion of Polish theatre art in Bulgaria and around the world and for the presentation of Bulgarian theatre and drama in Poland and Europe. The fruit of this activity is her participation as a co-author in three international volumes on the Central and Eastern European theatre avant-garde, as well as numerous chapters from books, studies, and articles in the field of Polish theatre and its influence and interaction with European theatre art.
