Screen Arts Sector celebrates the Day of Bulgarian Cinema with two events

On 13 January, scholars from the Screen Arts Sector celebrated the Day of Bulgarian Cinema with two events – Film Books with an Autograph and the premiere of the monograph The Power of Cinema. Anthology of Bulgarian Film Thought Between the Two World Wars.
With the assistance of the Cinema House and the National Film Centre, the scientists presented their monographs and publications at a special stand at the Cinema House in Sofia. Viewers and readers could familiarise themselves with the latest publications and monographs by scholars from the sector and receive personal autographs. The engaging titles include The Animation Hybrids by Prof. Nadezhda Marinchevska, Screen and Stage. The New Multimedia Performances and The Photography by Assoc. Prof. Yosif Astrukov, Help from the Audience, The Independent in Cinema by Prof. Alexander Donev, Bulgarian Posttotalitarian Documentary Cinema: Techniques, Trends, Authors, Films, Analyses by Assoc. Prof. Teodora Stoilova-Doncheva, Thessaloniki Film Festival by Assoc. Prof. Gergana Doncheva, Celluloid, Cellulose and Clouds. Transmedia Challenges for Film Critics in Bulgaria (1989-2021) by Rosen Spassov, PhD, (Re)Commissioned Films and Between Two Frames by Assoc. Prof. Deyan Statulov.
The last issue of the journal Art Studies Quarterly, an edition of the Institute of Art Studies dedicated to cinema, was presented at the event.
The premiere of the latest edition of the Institute of Art Studies’ project, The Power of Cinema. Anthology of Bulgarian Film Thought Between the Two World Wars, compiled by Rosen Spasov, PhD, and edited by Prof. Alexander Donev, DSc., was also held at 18:00 in Resonance Hall.
The book contains 120 studies and articles representing cinema publications in specialised editions and the mass press during the era. The list of authors consists of editors of film magazines, prominent film professionals such as Vasil Gendov, many prominent artists in the literature and culture of the era: Nikolay Raynov, Geo Milev, Elisaveta Bagryana, Dora Gabe, Aleksandar Balabanov, Dobri Nemirov, Angel Karaliychev, Fani Popova-Mutafova, Kiril Krastev, Chavdar Mutafov, Petar Uvaliev D. B. Mitov, Dimitar Nenov and others.
The edition was realised within the project of the Screen Arts Sector by the Institute of Art Studies-BAS "Cinema Culture, Arts and National Images in Bulgaria (KINO.BG). Formation of the Public Importance of Film Culture in the Period Between the Two World Wars” and is issued with state support under contract No. КП-06-Н60/6 of 16.11.2021 with the Scientific Research Fund at the Ministry of Education and Science.
The two events were attended by the Director of the Institute of Art Studies Prof. Joanna Spassova-Dikova, PhD, the Deputy Director Prof. Andronika Martonova, PhD, the Director of the National Film Centre Petar Todorov, Prof. Kamelia Nikolova, DSc, and Prof. Nikolay Yordanov, DSc, from the Theatre Sector, actors, directors, representatives of the film professional community, viewers, and fans of Bulgarian cinema.
