INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ART READINGS. ARTS AND ARCHIVES. NEW ART MODULE, 10 – 12 APRIL 2025

From 10 to 12 April 2025, the Institute of Art Studies – BAS will host the Annual International Scientific conference Art Readings, New Art Module with the topic Arts and Archives at the Conference Hall, 21 Krakra Str. This year, 61 researchers from 8 countries – Bulgaria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, Latvia, and North Macedonia – will participate. For three consecutive days, in 14 thematic sessions, they will present their research in the field of art archives and their current state and prospects for development. The focus of the conference is on the role of art archives in creating a reliable, deep, and objective history of the arts and, accordingly, on the professional, responsible, and adequate preservation, updating and use of existing archival funds, as well as on their development today in the era of new technologies.
The various thematic sessions and discussions that follow each of them discuss a wide range of topics such as: 1) available archives in the field of individual arts – theatre, music, screen arts, contemporary visual arts, and issues and problems arising from their use in research of these arts; 2) research and other scientific and applied practices and projects related to the development of existing archive funds and the creation of new arteries; 3) archives, personalities, and works; 4)  archives, arts, and new technologies; scientific problems related to digitisation and digital repositories of artefacts; 5) archiving of contemporary art – basic questions, ideas, problems.
The Art Readings International Scientific Conference will be held for another year with the financial support of the Scientific Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science, contract No. КП-06-МНФ/46/16.12.2024.
