Interactive exhibition on Bulgarian architectural heritage opens in Berlin

On May 13, 2025, the interactive exhibition “Architectural Heritage in Virtual Reality”, realised by the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and within the framework of the National Scientific Program for Development and Recognition of Bulgarian Studies Abroad (NSP Bulgarian Studies – Decree No. 205/07.04.2022), was opened in the hall of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin.
Prof. Joanna Spassova-Dikova, Director of the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), and Mr. Borislav Petranov, Director of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin, gave welcoming speeches for the guests. Then, Assoc. Prof. Arch. Dimitrina Popova, PhD, from the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and author of the three-dimensional digital reconstructions, spoke about the project's concept: how new digital technologies open new opportunities for studying architectural heritage in an innovative way.
The presentation in virtual reality of the three-dimensional reconstructions of Thracian tombs, Roman villas, and Renaissance houses was especially captivating. Using VR glasses, guests were immersed in different eras.
Kamen Tabakov from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences provided technical support for the virtual trip. From 13 to 18 May, several more virtual demonstrations of sites of architectural heritage were held within the framework of the exhibition.
The exhibition will be open to visitors at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin during the summer of 2025.
