BULGARIAN THEATRE – INTERSECTION OF CULTURAL INTERACTIONS SEMINAR

On June 26, 2025, at 10:00 in Hall 1 of the Institute of Art Studies, the first seminar meeting of the year will take place, focusing on the leading topic “Processes of Modernisation in Bulgarian Society and the Role of Theatre in Them.” Prof. Kamelia Nikolova, DSc., will serve as the moderator, while Prof. Nikolay Yordanov, DSc., will present an introductory report on the topic. The debate aims to explore the changes affecting the context of Bulgarian theatre's development, both historically and in the present. Additionally, it will highlight situations and trends in theatrical life that significantly transform dramaturgical writing and theatrical language, alongside those that preserve the status quo or revert to well-known stereotypes and conventions. The discussion will centre on theatrical history and modernity, although interest will also extend to the broader cultural context; parallel processes in other arts, which are a research focus at the Institute, may provide valuable insights for a deeper understanding and illumination of the topic.
