Theatre Problems Seminar
Head: Assoc. Prof. Rumyana Nikolova, PhD
The second meeting of the year of the seminar "Theatre Problems" will be held on 30.10.2025 at 10.00 in Hall 1 of the Institute of Art Studies.
Introductory report on the topic "Artificial intelligence and Theatre Talk About the Future of People" will be presented by Ch. Assist. Prof. Albena Tagareva, PhD
The rapid entry of artificial intelligence into life raises a number of questions – from how much it can replace a person in their routine activities to questions concerning education and the arts. The question of ethics in its use is everywhere. The topic of AI's use and application in the arts is extremely hot and polarising. On the one hand, there are ideas about restrictions and even bans on the use of AI in creative spheres; on the other hand, there are voices advocating its reasonable inclusion, controlled use, and the opportunities that this technology offers. But how does AI enter the theatre? What would be its future? Perhaps AI can now replace the composer and the playwright? Can it replace the director as well? And the actor?
The seminar will be devoted to issues related to the entry of AI into theatrical activity beyond its practical use, such as shortening and facilitating some processes. We will ask ourselves the questions: Can AI form a new theatrical language? Can we expect some creative activities to be replaced entirely by artificial intelligence? What is our preparation to meet this kind of technological and intellectual challenge?
