Women Directors in Bulgarian Documentary Cinema in the 20th Century Exhibition Opens

On 12 November 2025, at 19:00, the Odeon Cinema will host the opening of the exhibition Women Directors in Bulgarian Documentary Cinema in the 20th Century, realised by the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences with the support of the Culture Programme of Sofia Municipality.
The exhibition showcases Bulgarian directors whose documentaries have built the little-known yet extremely important history of the female presence in Bulgarian cinematography. Through archival photographs, film footage and analytical texts, the exhibition restores the memory of their contribution and reveals the richness of documentary cinema in Bulgaria.
The project was implemented by a team of researchers and experts from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, united by an interest in the history of Bulgarian cinema and its authors.
The exhibition can be seen at the Odeon Cinema, the Regional Museum of Sofia, and the Cinema House. In December, it will also visit the national festival of documentary cinema, "Golden Riton", in Plovdiv.
