155 Years of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. 155 Works of Art from the Collections of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
A bilingual scientific catalogue has been published, presenting works of art from the collections of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Art, as a natural companion of science since the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, has a special place in its structures and institutes. On the occasion of the 155th anniversary of its founding, the management of our oldest scientific institution commissioned a team from the Institute of Art Studies to conduct a research project on the selection and cataloguing of part of the art collections. In its collections, BAS stores both invaluable works of high artistic value and images-symbols and evidence of its history and cultural heritage. This jubilee album edition also contributes to the dissemination of knowledge about the arts by identifying and attributing works of art, acquainting readers with the authors' biographies, and pointing out specific facts related to both the creation and the fate of the works, conveying the emotional relief of their scientific exhibition. The high level of content of the proposed texts, achieved by the author's team and the visual presence, becomes an integral part of our communication with art, preparing the following stages of interaction with it on the path of development of visual culture with modern dimensions.
