CALL FOR PUBLICATIONS IN THE ART STUDIES QUARTERLY JOURNAL, 2026, ISSUE 3

The editorial board of the Art Studies Quarterly journal invites established and early-career scholars to submit proposals for studies, articles, and reviews for publication in the 4th issue of the journal, scheduled to go out of print by October 15, 2026.
The focal point of the journal's current issue is the 70th anniversary of Bertolt Brecht's death. Theatrical Reformers. In 2026, the theatre world marked the 70th anniversary of the death of Bertolt Brecht (1898–1956), one of the great reformers of 20th-century European theatre. This anniversary is an occasion both to recall the importance of the Brecht Theatre for the development of modern performing art, and to comment in general on the role of the theatrical reformers and their experiments in the constant actuality of the theatre and the need of society for it.
What is Brecht's influence – and is it ongoing – on today's theatrical practice? Which of the other great reformers in 20th-century European theatre are particularly relevant today? Does the modern scene have its new reformers? What reforms, experiments, and personalities does a theatrical artist need today? Who are the significant reformers in the Bulgarian theatre?
We expect the proposed texts to seek answers to these and a number of other questions related to the personalities who are changing and evolving with their bold ideas, experiments, and open theatrical scene.

The proposals need to be sent by 5 June 2026.
The authors are invited to send a brief synopsis of their article, study, or review (not more than 1000 characters) and a short biography (up to 500 characters) by 15th May 2023.
