Round table on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bogomil Starshenov
On 9 June 2026 at 14:00 in Conference Hall No. 1 of the Institute of Art Studies – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences ( 21 Krakra St), a Round Table dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bogomil Starshenov (1926–1985) – pianist, piano pedagogue, and public figure, will be held. A person of high lore and authority, he is considered one of the builders of musical life in the country after the 1950s. Numerous music celebrations and festivals were created on his initiative, the largest of which was the Sofia Music Weeks International Festival in 1970, and the foundations of the movement, Bulgarian Music Youth, which unified a wide range of music and educational events, etc.
The Round Table is the first scientific forum within the framework of a recently concluded cooperation agreement between the Institute of Art Studies, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Sofia Music Weeks International Festival and is part of the accompanying program of the 57th edition of the festival.
The main report will be presented by Assoc. Prof. Diana Danova-Damyanova, PhD, from the Music Sector of the Institute. Prof. Plamen Dzhurov, Prof. Rositsa Draganova, PhD, the pianists Angela Tosheva and Mariana Gyurkova, PhD, the journalist Silvia Tihova, the founder and longtime conductor of the Bulgarian Music Youth Chamber Orchestra Ivan (Jean) Angelov and others will participate. Prof. Momchil Georgiev, PhD, President of the Sofia Music Weeks International Festival, will serve as the event's moderator.
