Public lecture by Chief Asst. Prof. Stanislav Stanev, PhD, within the Scientific Seminar of the Bulgarian National Committee of ICOMOS in Sofia

Chief Assistant Professor Stanislav Stanev, PhD, delivered a public lecture on ‘Mesembrian Churches in the Studies of Architect Pyotr Pokryshkin’ at the invitation of the Bulgarian National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (BNC of ICOMOS). Although the topic coincided with the recently published monograph of the same name, the lecture was not, contrary to what the audience expected, a retelling of it. Oriented towards architects, restorers, archaeologists, and art historians engaged in the study and preservation of immovable cultural heritage, Dr Stanev’s presentation highlighted key moments of his work in the archival fonds in St. Petersburg, which contain materials by and for Pyotr Pokryshkin, and presented his observations about the methodology of architectural survey applied by the Russian architect in Messembria in the summer of 1900.

The lecture, which took place on 26 June 2026 at the Central House of the Architect in Sofia, was met with great interest not only for its theme but also for the lecturer’s ability to turn the history of the research into a fascinating story.
