SPACE, FORM, CONTEXT SEMINAR

The first meeting of the Space, Form, Context seminar, established in honour of Assoc. Prof. Violeta Vasilchina, PhD, will be held on 08.07.2026 at 11:00 in Hall 1 of the Institute of Art Studies, BAS.
An introductory report on ‘Monuments from the Recent Past in the Fabric of Contemporary Art – an Attempt at a Beginning – the Architectural Complex “Founders of the Bulgarian State”’ will be presented by Assoc. Prof. Maria Miteva, PhD. Undoubtedly, one of the most impressive monuments – in terms of scale, artistic qualities, and symbolism – is the architectural complex created to celebrate 1300 years of Bulgaria on the Shumen Plateau. At this first meeting of the scientific seminar, the response to the monument and its artistic value, the range of its symbolic meanings, their inclusion in the fabric of society today and, in particular, of the visual arts, will be discussed. Such a wide scope implies the consideration of problems in an interdisciplinary environment, and the event will also initiate a series of conversations about the recontextualisation of the recent past.
