Lecture by Prof. Kamelia Nikolova, PhD, within the seminar Art Studies, Archives, and the Internet. History and Perspectives

The second meeting of the permanent seminar of the team working on the topic “Cultural Heritage in the Archives of the Institute of Art Studies: Interactive Map of the Arts in Bulgaria II” (part of the project ‘Sustainable Development of the Centre of Excellence “Heritage BG”’, BG16RFPR002-1.014-0011) took place on 7 July 2026. The session included a lecture by Prof. Kamelia Nikolova, PhD, on ‘Theatrical performance and its archiving. History, current issues, perspectives’.

Prof. Nikolova outlined to the audience the emergence of the idea of a theatrical archive from a historical perspective, in Europe and in Bulgaria, and presented the content-based principle of structuring the archives of theatrical institutions (when these archives are maintained and serviced): each archival unit contains the various documents for a specific theatrical production. Various variants of the presence of documents for theatrical performances or productions on the Internet were also considered, as well as the opportunities and problems in extracting and systematising information from them.

A lively discussion with the audience followed the lecture.
