Prof. Nadezhda Marinchevska’s book, Animation Hybrids treats the mixing of styles, genres and film codes in new screen forms, an essential trait of contemporary film processes. Animation is the most versatile creative form of the new century, pervading both feature and documentary film. The study builds on the assumption that the specifics of animation expressiveness are a basis for and the engine of the new types of hybridism. The study focuses on the changes in cinematic language occurring as a result of this hybridism in the digital era. The book suggests new aspects of the ‘real-fantastic’ correlation in film, addressing the issue of the ‘documentary animation’ as a new type of presentation of true facts.
