The 150th anniversary of Dobri Hristov’s birth was celebrated on December 15 at the Institute of Art Studies and in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

The celebration was organised by the Music Sector of the Institute of Art Studies and the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevski" with the blessing of His Holiness Daniel, Patriarch of Bulgaria and Metropolitan of Sofia. It included a scientific conference and a concert of the Mixed Choir at the Cathedral.
The scientific conference "Dobri Hristov and his time" created an active dialogue between researchers from the Institute of Art Studies, the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov", Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", University of Veliko Tarnovo "St. Cyril and Methodius" and other scientific institutions around the work and presence of this remarkable person in the Bulgarian musical culture. The reports presented new research on the work and impact of Dobri Hristov in compositional work (secular and ecclesiastical), in musical folklore and church music, in music education, and in choral work.
The concert of the Mixed Choir at the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevski", with conductor Georgi Elenkov, was dedicated to the anniversaries of Dobri Hristov (150 years) and Angel Popkonstantinov (120 years) – both connected their destinies with this choir. The church works in the programme, related to significant moments in the choir's history, were grouped into three blocks. The first included parts of the "Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom" by Dobri Hristov, the second presented works from the "Collection of Liturgical Chants" by Angel Popkonstantinov. The concert ended with compositions from the late work of Dobri Hristov, intended for the liturgical sequence of the All-Night Vigil.
Before the concert, greetings to the organisers and participants were presented by the Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Emanuel Mutafov, in the presence of His Eminence Bishop Gerasim, Chairman of the Church Board of the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevski.
