Cooperation Agreement with the Varna Regional Museum of History
On 26 August, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Institute of Art Studies and the Varna Regional Museum of History by the Directors, Prof. Joanna Spassova-Dikova, PhD, and Ch. Assist. Prof. Igor Lazarenko, PhD. The Varna Regional Museum of History is among the museums with the longest history in Bulgaria and preserves rich collections, including thousands of cultural treasures from all historical eras. Among them are the world-famous gold finds from the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis. The museum is distinguished by Modern exhibitions and unique outdoor sites, including the Roman Thermae and Aladzha Monastery. The museum’s specialised departments employ highly qualified experts whose work spans a wide range of scientific, educational, and popularisation initiatives. They participate in the publication of the scientific series ‘Izvestiya na Varnenskiya muzey’ (Proceedings of the Varna Museum), maintain digital platforms using innovative technologies to present the ceramic heritage of the Bulgarian Black Sea region and the work of the Shkorpil brothers, organise scientific conferences and temporary exhibitions, and conduct various educational activities for children and school pupils in the recently renovated spaces of the Educational Museum.
On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the Varna Regional Museum of History and with the idea of institutionalising the fruitful contacts between colleagues from the two institutions over the years, this agreement was also prepared. The aim is for both parties to cooperate in all activities related to the study, preservation, and presentation of cultural and historical heritage; the exchange of knowledge; and the initiation of joint projects within funding mechanisms in Bulgaria.
