Golden Rose, Varna 2026

The Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, with the support of the Scientific Research Fund, organises a roundtable titled ‘Bulgaria in Europe. Circle of film ideas: past and present.’ The event will be held on 23 September 2026 at 16:00 in the meeting room of the Festival and Congress Centre – Varna, during the Festival of the Bulgarian Feature Film Golden Rose 2026.
The purpose of the conversation is to discuss and analyse the current state of Bulgarian cinema in the European context, to outline the working strategies for its international presentation and to create a platform for the exchange of good practices among professionals in the sector. Among the topics that will be discussed are the contemporary challenges facing European co-productions, the presence of Bulgarian cinema at European film forums and markets, the film repertoire, the distribution and display, the influence of European cinema in Bulgaria through the prism of its media perception, as well as the development of audiences, and the role of archives.
Scholars and researchers of Bulgarian and European cinema will take part in the discussion – film critics, producers, directors, and other colleagues from the film community.
The round table discussion is carried out under a scientific project funded by the Scientific Research Fund (SRF) under contract No. КП-06-Н100/11 of 10.12.2025.
The event is held in partnership with the Executive Agency National Film Center, the Bulgarian National Film Archive, and Creative Europe – MEDIA Bulgaria, with media support from BTA, BNR, Kultura.BG/BNT, actualno.com, Culture magazine, Culture Portal, KinoBox Bulgaria and kinoto.bg.
