Call for Papers: Issue No. 1, 2027 of the journal Art Studies Quarterly
The editorial board of Art Studies Quarterly invites established and emerging researchers to submit their latest studies and reviews for Issue No. 1 (2027), to be published by 31 March.
The first issue of the journal for 2027 will mark the recent jubilee of Prof. Elisaveta Musakova – a distinguished scholar of manuscript illumination and an art historian with a wide range of research interests.
The issue will focus on the intersections between word and image. The focus is on the art of the manuscript book – from its creators and audiences (donors, scribes, miniaturists, and readers), through palaeography, ornamentation, and miniature painting, to its overall design. The issue is also open to research dedicated to ecclesiastical art in general. Alongside the Christian heritage, the scope of content can be expanded to include analytical texts in the field of photography, exploring the conceptual connections, interactions, and differences between religious imagery and photographic art.
Proposals must be submitted by 20 November 2026.
They must include a brief abstract of the study, article, or review (up to 1,000 characters) and a short biography (up to 500 characters).
The deadline for submitting completed manuscripts is 20 December 2026. They should be up to 30,000 characters long and should be sent to the editorial office’s email (probleminaizkustvoto@gmail.com), as well as to the editors of the issue (bpenkova@gmail.com, tsvetakuneva@abv.bg).
Art Studies Quarterly is published by the Institute of Art Studies. It is indexed in the European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences (ERIH PLUS). All submitted articles will undergo double-blind peer review.
