Public lecture: 432 vs 440: Frequencies in form and sound: Scientific and musical empiricism
Ivan Yanakiev, a full-time PhD student, Department of Music, Institute of Art Studies, delivered a lecture as part of his studies on the frequencies of A, on 9 May, 2:30pm at the Institute. The lecture focused on the concert pitch in Europe and US, 432 Hz tuning system as a naturally emerging sound phenomenon and examples illustrating the sound. Examples demonstrated the variety of sounds of different pitches of A and some tunings (432 432 Hz tuning system and the standard musical pitch ISO16:1975 а1 = 440 Hz; equal temperament and a temperament with bare fifth). Concertmaster Videlin Djedjev from 432 Chamber Orchestra demonstrated several short examples of the difference between a violin tuned in 440 Hz with a series of Pythagorean perfect fifth intervals, and a one tuned in 432 Hz with bare fifth.
Ivan Yanakiev is the founder and conductor of 432 Chamber Orchestra, recently awarded by the Bulgarian National Radio,, Horizont in Debut category in the Allegro Vivace show for classical music.
